Finding the Right Solicitor When you Buy a Property

Daniel Maynard June 30, 2022 Reviews Leave a Comment

Buying a house is exciting, but it can also be a time of stress. There is so much to think about, from making sure you find the house that is right for you, and at a price you can afford, to understanding the legal side of moving house and ensuring that you have done all that you need to make it legally yours.

Something that everyone will need to do when buying a property is to get the help of a solicitor to deal with this. Solicitors who specialise in this are called conveyancing solicitors, like these conveyancing solicitors Cheltenham. Finding a solicitor before you begin the process is important, as you will be asked as soon as you put an offer in on the property to provide the contact details of your solicitor so that the sale can go through.

Finding the right one for you is important, as it is a large part of the house buying process. Some of the things that their role covers includes handling the legal contracts and documents, advising you on this, dealing with official bodies such as the council and the Land Registry, as well as other solicitors and dealing with the transfer of the funds to pay for your property.

When it comes to choosing the right one for you, there are many ways that you can go about this to ensure that you get the right solicitor for you. Here are a few ways that you can do this:

Ask friends and family – If you know anyone who has recently moved house (and of course were happy with their solicitors!) if they can recommend a solicitor to you.

Speak to the Estate Agents – They will have a good knowledge of local solicitors and will be able to suggest which ones are good to use.

Look online – Use search engines to find conveyancing solicitors in your area. Often on Google you will see reviews so this could help you to make a decision.

Once you have found a solicitor, then they can get on with the work that needs to be done in order to make the house yours. Good questions to ask them before you go ahead include whether they have a way to check your progress, if they have someone to cover for them if they are away and what sort of time it is likely to take.
