How Forklift Training Test Days Work
Test days for forklift operator training can be daunting for people who have yet to go through one. Our test days for forklift operator training are run in a similar format to all of our test days for forklift training, so if you have been booked onto a test day for forklift operator training it would be wise to read on to find out how the test days are run.
Pre-Test Briefing and Licence Check
The test day starts with an assessor giving all the candidates attending a pre-test briefing on what will happen during the test. You will need to produce a valid photo ID (e.g. passport) and if you have a driving license this will also be checked. This part of the test takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
Written Theory Questions
Next candidates will sit a short written theory test, typically consisting of 10-15 questions covering basic subjects relating to the operation of a forklift, such as the load capacity of the truck, basic theory of stability and checks to be undertaken prior to use of the forklift. It is common for candidates to refresh themselves on basic points covered during their forklift training course the night before their test. A pass in the written test is a prerequisite for going on to complete the practical test.
Practical Exercises on Site
You will be assessed on your ability to pick, travel with the load, to stack the load and to place the load safely. This will be done in a series of exercises given to you by the assessor and completed in sequence. The assessor will be monitoring your safe working practices, your control of the forklift truck and your awareness of the working area. The HSE requirements for forklift operator competence require the operator to show practical competence for operating a forklift truck. Many searches for Forklift Training Swindon contain test days held on the providers yard. This will contain realistic racking and loads to complete the required exercises.
Debrief and Results
After the test has finished the assessor will go through your performance with you, going through each part of the test individually. The results of your test will be confirmed on the day of the test and you will receive a certificate or licence card in the post a few days later.
If You Need a Retest
It’s also worth noting that retests aren’t uncommon and needn’t be a re-run of the entire course.
