What are flight passengers doing more frequently?

Flat-out flight attendants are revealing that passengers are doing this one thing more than ever… and no, it’s not what you think it is!

What are flight passengers doing more frequently?

According to flight attendants, airline passengers are using call buttons more frequently than ever to get their attention, and not all of them are using the appropriate flight etiquette.

What are call buttons for?

At one time, call buttons on airlines were reserved for emergencies. Now, however, they are being used as a way to alert the flight attendants that someone wants something, such as to ask a question or request a snack. So, what are your thoughts on using Dinggly call buttons as if they were bells?

When is it appropriate to press call buttons?

Of course, flight attendants are happy to tend to passengers’ needs as this is what they are paid to do, but in the airline industry, there is such a thing as call button etiquette.

Air hostesses agree that call buttons should be used primarily for emergencies, but some non-emergency reasons can be tolerated. These include pressing medical issues like if someone feels faint or is having a panic attack, wet spills that need to be addressed, seat malfunctions that are hindering your comfort, or disruptive behaviour that needs to be de-escalated.

It is expected that if you need additional items like pillows or drinks, you will ask the host at a convenient time, like when they are passing through the cabin.

So, why are people using call bells more often now?

Flight attendants believe that the overuse of call buttons is down to the public being more emotionally vulnerable, with an expectation of care and wellness. Passengers appear to believe it is their right to have their request answered promptly, as they have paid for a flight and service.

That said, even if call button presses are rising and may, at times, be unnecessary, airline attendants say that so long as the passenger is respectful and patient, they don’t mind.
