What are the requirements of getting an IATAN card?
A heavy equipment operator’s license or IATAN card is required for people who want to operate cranes, bulldozers, backhoes, etc. To get an IATAN card, you must meet several requirements. Some of these requirements are such as:
Proof of Identity
To prove your identity when applying for the IATAN card, you will need to present two forms of government-issued identification containing both your name and photograph when you apply for the card. The list includes driver’s licenses from most U.S. states and passports from any country.
Proof of Construction Experience
To prove you have the experience to operate heavy equipment, you will need to provide documentation that shows you have worked in the construction industry for at least two years. This can be a letter from your current or former employer or an affidavit from someone who can attest to your experience.
Proof of Passing a Written Test
To qualify for the IATAN card, you will need to pass a written test covering safety and operating procedures. Prometric administers the test, and you can find a list of locations where it is offered on the IATAN website.
Proof of Passing a Skills Test
An equipment operator’s license also requires a skills test that shows you can operate a piece of heavy equipment. This is completed at an IATAN-approved testing site, and it must be completed before your IATAN card is issued.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency
A birth certificate or passport with recent visa stamps works as proof, as does an unexpired foreign passport with a current BCIS stamp on the identification page and a current paper green card.
To get an IATAN card, the requirements above need to be met. Remember, the applicant must be 18 years of age or older. The applicant must also have a valid passport and a clean criminal record. Once all of this information is gathered, it can be submitted to IATAN for review. If approved, the applicant will be issued an IATAN card.
